Common questions about compressing images online.
It depends on the original and the quality level. Typical photos shrink by 50–90% at 60–80% quality with no visible difference. Images that are already well optimized (for example, exported from a modern editor at low quality) compress less.
JPG and WebP compression is lossy — some data is discarded — but at 80% quality the difference is practically invisible on photos. If you need a pixel-perfect copy, choose the High preset (95%) or compress PNG files, which keep their format's strengths.
